    ' Tis the Season
    at Food & Friends

Food & Friends has started a new tradition, one that they hope will become an annual part of everyone's holiday. This year they proudly introduce the Food & Friends’ Giving Tree. The Giving Tree is a way for all of us to join in helping to provide nutritious life-sustaining meals throughout the holiday season to friends and neighbors in need.

Located in their office, this 7-˝ foot tree stands decorated with handcrafted keepsake glass icicle ornaments, one for each client Food & Friends delivers to everyday. Each ornament can be purchased to provide a week's worth or more of meals for a client.

Artist Tim Tate and Meltdown Studios generously donated the glass and creative concept for the ornaments. Tim also helped create the perfect tree topper and enlisted the help of fellow artisan Chad Alan to create a signature tree skirt. The end result is a stunning one of a kind quilted tree skirt adorned with the Food & Friends logo and signed by the artist. The tree toppers and skirt collectively have helped bring in $15,000 alone.

This includes two challenge gifts of $5,000 each from Suzanne Goldstein with Dana Greenwald and Christopher Wolf with James Beller! Together they have challenged the organization to place an ornament on the tree for each of their 1000 clients.

As donations are made, the ornaments will be replaced one-by-one on the tree with a holiday card bearing that client's name. To date, the 2003 Food & Friends Giving Tree has generated more than $32,000 of the $50,000 goal.

Food & Friends needs your help to reach their goal and their Giving Tree Challenge!

Stop by Food & Friends to witness the wonder of the season.

To participate call Stephen Alexander at 202.863.1837 or visit their web site www.foodandfriends.org. To go directly to the Giving Tree Donation Form: click here

For people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-challenging illnesses, the battle is far from over. We just make sure no one has to do it on an empty stomach.
